Lucius, also known as the Dark Knight, was formerly the General of the Silent Warriors and second only to the King and the Prince. He rebelled against Them, turning one third of all Silent Warriors into Shadow Warriors and starting the first war. The Dark Knight and his forces were defeated by the King, and thus were banished from the Kingdom Across the Sea. Lucius led the Shadow Warriors to the Land of Arrethrae, where he would wage never-ending war against the King's followers in that land.

Biography[]

From Warrior to Dark Knight[]

Originating from the Kingdom Across the Sea, Lucius was a Silent Warrior, one of the King's loyal army of angelic warriors. In fact, Lucius was head of the Silent Warriors, throughout all the Kingdom answering only to the King and His Son. He was a master swordsman, and was the instructor of all the King's Soldiers. But he was also proud and arrogant, and in time he would resolve to challenge the King's supremacy. He quietly converted his most loyal followers into the fearsome Shadow Warriors and prepared to march on the King's palace.

However, the rebellion, though saddening, was not a surprise to the King and the Prince. They promptly appointed Micalem to lead the faithful Silent Warriors, who fought back against the Shadow Warriors. Outmatched by the superior numbers of his enemies and the power of the King and the Prince, Lucius and his followers were forced to flee. Now bitter and eager for revenge, they made their way across the Great Sea to Arrethrae.[1]

Using the alias of Lord Sinjon, and claiming to be from a region called Hadenborough, Lucius visited the palace that the King had established for His servants Peyton and Dinan. Lucius offered the pair rich gifts, and persuaded Finan to accept them through his flattering words while Peyton remained silent. Having received the gifts, against the counsel of the King, the pair felt obliged to offer Lucius and his few servants hospitality for the night. Lucius kept up his pretense of benevolence until that night, when he opened the gates for the rest of his army. While they slaughtered the guards and servants, Lucius took Dinan hostage and forced her and Peyton from the palace. He ordered his men to burn and destroy everything, and after revealing his true identity to the pair left them to bear the shame of facing the King.

Lucius and his Shadow Warriors became embroiled in a war with the Silent Warriors, which remained secret from most of the men and women of Arrethtrae. Lucius sought servants among these, however, to aid him in bringing pain and suffering to the kingdom. Among his most ardent followers would be Zane, son of Peyton and Dinan. Having joined Lucius’ service after murdering one of his own brothers, Zane later led Lucius to the home of the now widowed Peyton.

After Leinad, another son of Peyton, was found near their temporary camp, Lucius ordered Zane to kill him. He and his warriors then rode to Peyton’s farm, where Lucius mortally wounded the man. Lucius and his forces then left the Plains of Kerr ahead of the Vactor Deluge. Leinad, who had escaped Zane, was lent the horse Deliverance due to Lucius stealing his family’s mounts.[2]

Seeking to thwart the King’s plans, Lucius led his Shadow Warriors into a battle with a force of Silent Warriors led by Gabrik. His superior force overwhelmed Gabrik’s, and Lucius himself advanced to kill his former subordinate and Leinad, who had joined Gabrik. Before Lucius could clash with them, however, Micalem arrived with reinforcements. Lucius then faced Micalem instead, allowing Gabrik and Leinad to make their escape.

Lucius had also sent Zane and his army to attack Chessington, and Leinad quickly traveled there to meet them. He attempted to sway Zane from Lucius’ allegiance, but Zane remained firm in his belief that Lucius would triumph.Micalem was able to force Lucius to withdraw, and Gabrik’s forces were able to reach Chessington and force Zane’s retreat. Gabrik warned Leinad that Lucius would return.[3]

Physical appearance[]

As a Shadow Warrior, Lucius was a tall and imposing figure. He had dark hair and was apparently handsome in appearance, though with "sharp features". Unlike most if not all of the other Shadow Warriors, his face was free of scars until his defeat in the Battle of the Ages, during which he received a scar across his face from the sword of the Prince.
